7 Ways to Take Your Workout Outside

Summer is fast approaching!

While you definitely don't want to fall off the bandwagon with your current fitness routine, the warm sun is calling your name. After all, summer is the time to get outside and enjoy all that mother nature has to offer.

The last place you want to be is inside. So, how can you stay fit and enjoy the summer weather?

Here are 7 ways to take your workout outside:

1. Say Goodbye to the Treadmill & Hello to the Trails.

Throw on your running shoes and hit the pavement. Get your cardio fitness on while enjoying the beautiful outdoors. When you're actually moving - as opposed to running on the spot - you might perceive your workout as less strenuous. You also are more likely to enjoy it more. Besides, no one actually likes the cardio machines at the Gym. Ditch 'em! Go for your jog outside. Take a new route each time to keep it interesting.

2. Check Out a Free Yoga Class.

In the summer, these can often be found in abundance. Look up free outdoor yoga classes in your city. From beaches to parks, you're bound to find one. You can find your zen, get in a solid workout, and enjoy the fresh summer air.

3. Take Your Interval Workout to the Beach.

Not only does running on the beach take more energy, but you can also add in some resistance with the water. Or you can throw in a swimming interval - whatever works. Do burpees on your towel. Stride down the beach by doing walking lunges.

The best part? You can jump in the water to cool off once your workout is complete!

4. Try an Outdoor Gym.

In major cities (and some smaller places), outdoor gyms provide an easy way to bring your workout into the sunshine. The machines may be slightly different… but you'll often get some of the same. They frequently also incorporate calisthenic equipment like pull-up bars, monkey bars, and more. You can choose to do an interval workout or just some basic strength training. Check them out and see what's available in your area.

5. Start Biking to and From Work.

The weather is perfect for this. Plus, it's an easy way to get in some cardio throughout your week. And you can also take in some serious vitamin D. Dust off those tires and adjust that bike seat.

There's an additional bonus to this one. If you regularly take your car to work, you'll not only be saving on petrol. You'll also be reducing your carbon footprint. It's definitely something you can feel extra good about!

6. Go for a Hike.

Have you explored the outer perimeter of your town or city? Why not take this summer to check it out? Trails can be found on Google Maps or sites such as AllTrails. On AllTrails, hikes are rated from easy to hard. Take your pick and consider challenging yourself to really make this one a workout. Find new heights and new views. What have you been missing out on near you?

7. Do a Park Bench Workout.

Those park benches aren't just for sitting. They also provide a simple way to perform your workout outside. Perform push-ups on them. Squat down until you touch the bench. Hold a plank on it. Step up onto the bench, then back down again. Get creative. There are a ton of options. Find them and perform them.

Working Out Isn't Just for the Gym.

These are only 10 ways you can bring your workout outside. There are plenty more options, including various fitness classes - besides just yoga - that happen weekly in the outdoor parks and green spaces in Australia. Get outside and enjoy this summer. You can absolutely build your beach body outdoors! Have fun and become a healthier and happier you.
